The City of Seattle is now accepting applications for volunteers to serve on the Families, Education, Preschool & Promise (FEPP) Levy Oversight Committee (LOC). The LOC plays a key role in shaping education programs and policies that support Seattle’s youth and families.
Approved by nearly 80% of Seattle voters, the 2025 FEPP Levy will generate $1.3 billion in revenue over six years (2026-2032) to sustain and expand investments that advance educational equity across Seattle. The FEPP Levy supports the Every Child Ready vision, funding early childhood development, K–12 academic and enrichment support, and college and career pathways.
Committee Member Role
No prior committee experience is required. Serving on the LOC offers members the opportunity to build leadership and collaboration skills and connect with community partners and City staff working to improve outcomes for Seattle students and families.
The LOC provides community oversight of FEPP-funded programs. Committee responsibilities include:
- Reviewing program data, outcomes, and annual reports
- Providing feedback and recommendations to strengthen program quality and impact
- Monitoring progress toward levy goals and outcomes
- Visiting schools and community partners delivering FEPP-funded services
- Reviewing proposed changes to levy-funded programs, submitting letters of support or giving public comment to Seattle City Council
Twelve applicants will be selected to join the LOC. Members will be selected to serve a one-year or two-year term. The LOC typically meets monthly for a 90-minute meeting and meetings may be in-person or virtual. The LOC convenes annually for a full-day retreat. Expected time commitment is up to five hours per month.
Who should apply
We are seeking members representing all seven Council Districts and perspectives of youth and young adults, college students, and people with lived experience or knowledge in early childhood, K–12 academics and enrichment, youth health and wellness, and college access and career pathways. Applicants from historically excluded communities and Indigenous communities, current Seattle public school high school students, former or current Seattle Promise scholars, and parents/guardians of children participating in FEPP-funded programs are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must live or work in Seattle. Application materials should convey the applicant’s investment areas of interest and professional, personal, or research experience with cradle-to-career investments.
How to apply
Submit an application, resume, and a letter of interest through the City of Seattle Boards & Commissions website by January 30, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. For more information about the committee or the application process, visit the Levy Oversight Committee website or contact Mei-Li Thomas at Mei-Li.Thomas@seattle.gov or (206) 573-2241.
