City of Seattle Celebrates Record Enrollment in the Award-Winning Seattle Preschool Program for 2024-2025 School Year 

The Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) celebrated the first week of the 2024-25 school year! This school year, over 1,850 children are enrolled in the Seattle Preschool Program (SPP).   

Student Mental Health Pilot Expanding to Additional Schools

As part of the City’s $4.5 million investment to increase student mental health supports in schools, the Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) is launching a funding process to expand services at up to three additional schools beginning fall 2023.

Eight of Ten Students Engaged in Summer Learning Report Being Better Prepared for School

Last year, survey feedback from 1,059 youth served by DEEL’s 2022 summer learning investments showed more than 8 out of 10 students had an overall positive experience in their summer program and felt better prepared to return to school in the fall. This year, community organizations and city agencies are eligible to apply for up to $75,000 per program to support existing programs through DEEL’s Summer Learning Enhancement fund. Applications open March 6.

Rainier Beach High School’s Record-Setting Participation in IB-for-All, a FEPP Levy-Funded Model for Inclusive High-Quality Student Learning 

Rainier Beach High School’s (RBHS) uniquely accessible IB-for-All program served 75 percent of 2022’s graduating class, representing 156 seniors, on their paths to universities and careers in 2021-22. International Baccalaureate (IB) has historically been perceived as an exclusive program, but RBHS is breaking the mold—students are taking IB courses in record numbers, representing one of the highest percentages of dual-credit scholars matriculating to postsecondary programs in Washington State.
