As the 2020-2021 school year nears its end, DEEL is reflecting on the innovative ways our partners and providers pivoted during the pandemic to continue serving Seattle children, youth, and families. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting some of the inspiring work we’ve seen over the last year. The Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) announced more than $727,000 in awards to improve and expand preschool facilities at four locations for participation in the Seattle Preschool Program (SPP).
The Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) was recently awarded its fourth silver medal for high-quality preschool programming from CityHealth and the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) at Rutgers University.
The Seattle Preschool Program Request for Qualifications is now open. Submissions will be accepted through January 7, 2021.
In celebration of DiscoverU 2020, a week of college and career exploration, we’re featuring an interview with Rory Gill, Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) Teacher at Daybreak Star Preschool and recipient of the Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise (FEPP) Levy funded SPP teacher scholarship. The SPP scholarship contributes to the early learning workforce by supporting SPP educators to meet lead teacher education requirements (bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education).
